Inside The Whore preview

The first grindhouse exploitation film to be made in Norway, The Whore from 2009, was released on DVD earlier this year,  and already now the sequel has been shot. Director Reinert Kiil promises to not hold anything back.

While The Whore (Hora in its original language) was met with critical coldness in Norway, DVD sales and international reception was strong enough to warrant a sequel, director Reinert Kill decided. The film’s three festival awards may have helped too. This summer the sequel was filmed near Bergen on Norway’s beautiful West Coast, and has been named Inside the whore. This time, the film is created as a mockumentary, a fake documentary, that follows the crew of the first film.

Once again Reinert Kill is directing, and he has also written the script. -This film will be more raw than the previous one, and equally grotesque, Kiil says to the newspaper Dagbladet. In brief terms, the story is about the cinematographer and the director trying to make the most gruesome movie ever, by trying to kill the cast and crew. The film’s tagline describes it as “a meta-film with meta-violence within a meta-production”. That was probably not what legendary director Ingmar Bergman had in mind when he created the rape-revenge subgenre in 1960 with the b&w film The Virgin Spring. The synopsis of Inside the whore is as follows, taken from the press release:

“While shooting the sequel to The Whore, director Reinert Kiil and his director of photography join forces in an effort to make the ugliest and most grotesque film ever made. During production outside Kvam in Bergen, the crew and actors notice that there is something weird and strange going on when friends and colleagues begin to die in brutal ways. The question is whether it is the whore who has come to life looking for revenge or whether it’s actually the director who gets his dream come true about making the most horrible movie ever.”

Inside the whore is specifically aimed at an international audience. Six foreign languages are therefore used in the film, and Kiil wants to send the film directly to festivals in USA and Asia, to begin with. He’s also aiming at a limited theatrical release. -Even though tougher things happen in this film, it will also be more mainstream, Kiil explains, although he adds there is so much blood and gore in the film that he was faced with a challenge editing it.

Cast in the sequel are Isabel Vibe (the lead actress of the first film), Viktoria Winge (Max Manus, Cold Prey 1 and 2), actor star Jørgen Langhelle, Dagrun Anholdt, Kim Sønderholm, Philipino music and TV star Irris Hollanes Lua, and TV reality star, Anette Young. The sequel’s budget is 400.000 NOK (around 50.000 euros), which is 100.000 more than the first film.

Inside the whore is expected to open in January 2011.
